Whatever the verdict on obesity being a 'disease' or not, people who are obese do feel like they are out of control. Eating when you are not hungry has more to do with an 'emotional hunger' and no amount of food will satisfy that. Overweight people don't have a weight problem but a self-care problem. Food is a way to anesthetize them so that they don't have to be responsible for what's really going on. Of course any habit once learned, can be 'unlearned'. It's all about making different choices, and some people would much rather keep things the same and have a moan, than do anything differently!
